When to call?
The time has come, and now?
Usually, labour takes place between the 37th and 42nd week of pregnancy, the due date. You call us when you need us. We explain here when we would like you to call in any case. On the information evening on childbirth we discuss this in detail.
Call us when you need to
Feeling good
Every birth starts differently. You can call us if you feel it is necessary.
As a guideline, you can use the following:
Amniotic fluid loss
- Clear or pink amniotic fluid, sometimes with flakes is normal. If the waters break during the day, you may call immediately. If it happens at night, call the midwife on duty the next morning around 9am;
- Green, yellow or brown amniotic fluid? If so, the baby has defecated in the amniotic fluid. If so, call immediately, even at night;
- If the baby's head has not descended sufficiently (you will have heard this from us at the consultation), please call immediately in case of amniotic fluid loss.
Contractions
When there are regular, strong contractions that come every 4-5 minutes for at least an hour and last for about a minute.
Blood loss
- If you lose mucus mixed with a little blood, there is no need to worry, this is normal;
- However, if there is heavy, bright red blood loss, call immediately.
We then usually come to you after consultation; in some cases, we meet at the hospital.
